Valan and Max Magnabosco I am an identical twin and my name is Valan Magnabosco. My sister, Vonlee, and I were born in Bangkok, Thailand. Our Chinese last name is Wu. After elementary school, we went to Singapore for our secondary school education. Indiana University was our next stop. My twin sister decided to finish her college in Hawaii when my family moved there. I chose to stay at IU for both my BS and OD degrees. Those first few winters were really rough and uncomfortably cold for me. Fortunately, winters no longer seem bleak as I have come to love the forever changing Indiana weather. We moved to Carmel this April after twenty years in Brownsburg. Both my daughters attend Brebeuf. Lara is a senior and Cara is a sophomore. I practice optometry part time at Optiview Vision Center and my husband, Max, is a financial advisor at Wachovia Securities. Of course, our family would not be complete without our two miniature dachshunds, Leilani and Cleo. Our family joined IACA several years ago as life members. With our
children’s active schedules, we were unable to attend many IACA
functions. I am so delighted and honored to be asked to be IACA’s
secretary this year. It is giving me opportunity to meet so many wonderful
people and rekindle past friendships. Also, it is such a pleasant surprise
to meet a couple of IACA members who speak my dialect. I am truly looking
forward to being an active IACA member this year and meeting all of
you!
Yuan Tu Ten years ago, we moved from Manhattan, New York, because I had found a job with Eli Lilly and Company, where I have been working ever since as an associated biologist dealing with mice and bacteria. We first rented an apartment in Pike Township, which - at only 900 square feet - still felt like a palace compared to the apartment we rented on 111th Street, Manhattan. A few months later when I felt that I could handle the mice and bacteria, I told my wife that we might be able to buy a cheaper townhouse. We ended up buying a "huge house," relative to our intended townhouse. The realtor and builder hooked us up. This additional transition forced my older daughter, Feng to change schools for her 8th time. She's now 20 and a sophomore at college. My second daughter, Abigail, born in Manhattan, is 11 years old in fifth grade. We joined IACA five years ago because we believed it would make our
lives more meaningful in this small town. We emigrated from Fujian,
China, where both my wife and I were born, but now, we are trying to
become Hoosiers. Next Page >> Do you know . . .
