Jeannie Allen and Family

I came from Hong Kong for college in the seventies amid the “Woodstock” era. After graduating from University of Hawaii with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting, I was in the accounting and finance field. Since licensed as CPA in 1982, I worked in public companies, private companies, government and non-profit organizations. Mostly recently, I retired myself from the post of controller at the library. Now I sit on the Board of a couple of charitable organizations and teach whenever there is an opportunity.

We moved to Indianapolis in 1989 following my husband’s career move. Before our move, he was concerned about my getting used to the Midwest without Chinese friends here. After settling down here, we joined IACA. It felt like an extended family where everyone look out for each other and inform each other of opportunities to better our welfare and spread Chinese culture. So in 1996, I served as President of IACA. It kept growing as an organization with influx of immigrants and children of Chinese decent. We enjoy the annual activities such as Chinese New Year celebration, Christmas party, International Festival and occasional events such as World Rowing Regatta, Mongolian Dance. The camaraderie and volunteerism IACA members continuously display still amazes me.

Diana Yung and Family

I wanted to thank Agnes and the others for giving me a chance to serve the IACA again. I was secretary from 1996-1998 and enjoyed it a lot. This time around I am treasurer of the council and I am looking forward to working with them and serving the Chinese Americans community. I came to this country in 1980 from Hong Kong and attended Indiana State University and Butler University where I got my BA and MM degrees respectively. Rudy and I have been married for 20 years and our daughter, Ella, is 18 and son Phillip, is 15. Ella is senior and will be going to Northwestern University next fall and Phillip is freshman this year. We have been involved with the IACA for a long time and we believe that it is as important to educate the next generations about the Chinese culture as it is to introduce it to our fellow Americans. I hope the IACA will continue to move forward in this new year and I am happy I can help.
