The Lion Dance Team In Action

By Francis Russell

The lion dance team of IACA started out 2004-2005 season with a bang....dancing heroically during heavy rain at the Monument Circle for the "Race for the Races" on October 23rd, dancing our hearts out as the walkers/runners came by. The participants on that day were Allison Yum, Anna Heckman, Anne Wolpert, David Russell, Eugene Wong, Frances Russell, George Feng, Hope Casey-Allen, Janet Casey-Allen, Larry Casey-Allen, Julia Wolpert, Kuen-Wai Chiu, Maddie Bora, Teresa Heckman, and William Feng.

All of the above except Simon Feng instead of Maddie Bora danced again on November 6th, leading the Parade of the Nations at the International Festival. Again, we worked very hard as this was a long parade up and down every aisle to the cheers of people lining up on both sides of the aisles, often with camera pointing at us.

On November 12th, Wendy and Simon Feng arranged for some of us to help Orchard School celebrate diversity by participating in their all school program. Dr. Feng gave a short introduction about the lion dance followed by our large and middle sized lions doing a duet. Participants include Kendall Brewer, Emma Creveling, Kathryn Carlisle, Geroge, Simon, Wendy and William Feng, Allianne and Elizabeth Staruszkiewicz, Frances Russell, Anne and Julia Wolpert. The dance was enthusiastically received at the school.
