The President's Corner

March 17, 2001

Dear Friends,

Thank you for this opportunity to serve and learn from you as well as our community. I will try my best, but my best will not be good enough. I need your support.

Based on the spirit of the IACA mission statement, four divisions were organized under the executive council and four directors were appointed: Agnes Wolverton as director of Culture and Education, Andy Loh as director of Public Affairs, Ambrose Chan as director of Organizational Development and Raymond Wong as director of Membership Services. Two long-standing committees were formed to guard our organization: Constitution and By Laws as well as Finance.

IACA is made up of a very diverse group of members. We not only have to respect differences, but also we have to tolerate indifferences. In order to fulfill the needs of the general membership while maintaining unity, different committees and subcommittees were formed. Please join in those that interest you. Four funds were founded for different interest groups to contribute for future needs: Cultural and Education Fund, Longevity Fund for Elder Care, Building Fund for storage space and General Fund. Attention has been paid to the Young Professional Group by Gary Lin; Elder Care by Yvonne Shen and Chinese Restaurant workers care by Janet Casey-Allen.

Our goal is to set up an organized and workable system that can be followed in the future; our primary focus is on local Chinese-Americans. Our purpose is to rotate members to different committees and subcommittees so that all of us will enjoy volunteering and not get burned out.

As a general member, the minimum you can do to help us is to pay your membership fee, participate in activities and express your opinion. The brand new IACA survey form is designed as a vehicle for every one of you to communicate with us. It has been a disappointment that we only received 14 responses so far (that is less than 10% of members). We urge each of you to show your support to IACA by returning the survey form!

Together we will have fun! Are you ready?

Sincerely,

Raymond Wong, D.D.S., M.S.D.
