China National Traditional Orchestra Concert

As Rudy mentioned in his column, this concert was a great success. Even the ticket office manager and the event manger at the ISO thanked us for bringing this unique and excellent concert to Indy and asked us to invite them back next year The Lilly CCC members were heavily involved in this concert- from start to finish I would like to thank all these people with a special thanks to Wendy Zhang who will be the upcoming chair of the Lilly Chinese Culture Network (Chinese Culture Club will be renamed as Chinese Culture Network, effective 10/1/00). Wendy is the main contact between Lilly and the Chinese Consulate in Chicago who arranged the US concert tour I also want to express my appreciation to the Eli Lilly foundation which contributed $20,000 to support this event.

A note of thanks from a young concert attendee who received a ticket from
an IACA Council member . . .

I enjoyed the Chinese concert very much. It was a really neat experience
to see people from a different place and hear their kind of music. It was
a great thing to experience. Thank you for taking me. I loved it.

Mid-Autumn Festival

On September 9th, IACA hosted a celebration of the shining harvest moon at White River Park. What a beautiful night! We had a terrific turnout of IACA and FCC families. Our FCC families really appreciate being included in such an important Chinese celebration. At this time of year, the moon's orbit is at its lowest angle to the horizon, which makes it appear brighter and larger than at any other time of the year.

This years celebration was an occasion for friends and families to gather and eat "mooncakes" and watch the moon. The moon was in its perfectly rounded shape forming the ideal symbol for family harmony and unity. We walked across the bridge with lighted lanterns and the youngest participants carrying flashlights. It was a great night to spread a blanket on the lawn, nibble mooncakes, sip soft drinks and enjoy the moon.
