Notes From The President Notes from the President There was a big party for new IACA members on April 16. Due to the generous gesture from our council member, Vincent Wong, the party was held at his beautiful house. Close to seventy members, new and old, mingled and had a wonderful time. This, by far, was the most attended welcoming party in recent history, thanks to the hard work of the organizing committee. The annual Dragon Boat/Father's Day picnic was held on June 4 at Eagle Creek Park Marina. Mother Nature was kind and provided us with extraordinary good weather. With the temperature in the mid-70s, and plenty of sunshine, over one hundred and fifty people turned out. Children enjoyed making Father's Day T-shirts and having boat races with cardboard boats, while adults renewed friendships and made new friends. Telamon scholarships were awarded during the picnic. Ten young men and women were rewarded for their academic achievements. We also congratulated three high school graduates on their outstanding achievements: Danielle Chou, Jennifer Pan and Dorothy Touponce. The event concluded with a short boat cruise of Eagle Creek reservoir. In addition to all the wonderful social gatherings, IACA has been active in reaching out to the local community. Posters depicting Chinese Inventions and Contributions of Chinese-Americans and colorful exhibits of Chinese New Year festivals were displayed at the downtown main library for the entire month of January. I would like to thank Vicky Ko, who was most instrumental in the success of these displays. In April, IACA participated in an educational event presented by the Chinese Language Teachers Association at Pike High School. We were also at the Pike Township Multicultural/International Fair with a display. In May, Frances Russell represented IACA with a display at the IPS Gifted and Talented Product Fair. In June, IACA was invited to participate in Diversity Day sponsored by the US Department of Treasury. It is through events like these that we can share with our fellow Americans our rich heritage and culture. I would like to thank all the volunteers who made this possible. We are constantly working to bring more services to our members. With the help of our good friend Victor Kuan, IACA has a secured a small grant from the Indianapolis Foundation, which will be used for a "Health Awareness Day", tentatively scheduled in November. The will be a new experience for all of us, but more significantly, represents the first step IACA has taken toward a new direction. Finally, the new member directory is here. Thanks to the hard work of the directory committee, the directory was distributed to members at this year's Dragon Boat Festival. Those who did not attend the event should have received their copy in the mail by now. Many volunteers have worked hard to bring the directory to us: Yvonne Shen, Lissa Garrison, Rose Hawn, Patrick Pun, Cynthia Young, Justin Young, Leeman Kuo, Vicky Ko and Vincent Wong. To all of you, I thank you. Rudy Yung, President
